I recently serviced a call about a water heater.  The owner says that the water was not getting hot enough.  After testing all points with a meter, the problem was determined to be a faulty heating element. However, the only other problem would have been the thermostat (with the same set of circumstances).  I replaced the element, filled it to water level, and powered the unit back up.  All was well.  It was my first time servicing a water heater.  I think water heaters fall more in line with what "Plumbers" do ... but ... it's all good.
