I recently serviced a call about a water heater. The owner says that the water was not getting hot enough. After testing all points with a meter, the problem was determined to be a faulty heating element. However, the only other problem would have been the thermostat (with the same set of circumstances). I replaced the element, filled it to water level, and powered the unit back up. All was well. It was my first time servicing a water heater. I think water heaters fall more in line with what "Plumbers" do ... but ... it's all good.
Here's a video that I used to bring me up to speed on water heater heating elements:
I also called GE Tech Support at 1-800-432-8373 and they emailed me the following (since I couldn't find it online anywhere)
